Call To Preserve from Florida kick off this debut CD in old school metal style with chugging, bass-heavy, twin-guitar riffs and pounding double bass patterns. They are a touch reminiscent of the classic early Metallica or Megadeth sound. Their vocalist, John Ellis, is a no-nonsense thrasher with a throat like the gearbox of a dodgy Transit van. The opening three tracks, "Hold Fast", "You Broke Down" and "Force Of Change", are all storming rockers, but as the album progresses it all tends to merge into one, there's not a lot of variation or originality. 'Unsinkable' is also disappointingly short, being billed as the band's first "full-length" album; it actually clocks in at a little over 27 minutes. By the end of the album I was getting kind of glad that it wasn't any longer as the best tracks were gone and we were into filler territory. Not a bad band, just not a lot there that stands out from the crowd.
