Reviewed by Brendan O'Regan Listening to this album is like being caressed by the Gospel. Gudu is an Essex-based singer/songwriter and his sweet, sinuous voice is like a pillow for the soul that yearns for God. The opening track the traditional "Praise God" lays down a marker and creates expectations that are fully delivered. Gudu's singing is wonderful throughout, sometimes accompanied by pleasant harmonies and always enhanced by soothing instrumental arrangements that never overwhelm the lyrics. Gudu is multi-talented - apart from the singing he wrote most of the songs and gets arrangement, engineering and co-producer credits with his wife Sima. One of the most appealing tracks, the inspiring prayer song "Peace With My Soul", was co-written with Freedom Sengwayo, while Eustance joins Gudu for the reassuring duet "Nobody There". "Lord You Are Holy", a funky praise song, is mostly instrumental, with some fine sax work from Roberto Manzin and Karabo Mongatane among others joining in on vocals. All in all this is a fine piece of creativity, confident and professional that repays repeated listening, whether on the move or in more relaxed and intimate prayer settings. Above all though, it's that heavenly voice that appeals. Finally, the cover booklet gives full credits, though I would have liked a lyric sheet.
