Though there is no obvious evidence to suggest that the Austrian drum'n'bass and dubstep duo are believers, many Cross Rhythms readers will be aware of their featured vocalist's credentials. It seems a while since Shaz's silky yet striking voice thrilled us with those stunning dBA releases so it's a welcome return for the lady. But it's so brief! This is the debut single from their new album, but Ms. Sparks is only allowed about 30 words. It's like a Tweet. Repeated once. Just as well the music is massive. The track begins with pulsating synth chords and crisp hand claps, not unlike some vintage dBA in fact. Then there is an epic crescendo until the heavy sub-bass starts to shake your foundations. The production is slick and smooth, featuring an array of analogue oscillators and filters performing constant yet invisible, almost organic, manipulation of the sounds. The thumping beat teases, but it remains in slow-motion mode for much of the time: a strange moment for the dance-floor, but an intriguing one for a long drive or while at home preparing for an evening out. In fact the music performs quite an unusual feat: it both chills and uplifts at the same time.
