This 21 year old singer from Portland, Oregon, got mass media exposure through American Idol and this, her 10-song debut, linked her with producer Dave Lubben (Kutless, Rachel Chan). It's hard to stop comparing her with such mainstream hitmakers as Taylor Swift and Kelly Clarkson. Singing-wise, she is indeed impressive and her appealing tones are encased in plenty of nifty pop rock accompaniments. What holds the whole thing back is quality songs. By far the best one is the title track which apparently Candice wrote after major health problems were diagnosed. It has a pretty good lyric ("Every set back sets me up to come back/And I'm okay with that/I can't control what's out of my hands/I still believe there's a bigger plan"). More songs like this and her debut would have been outstanding. As it is, it's simply adequate.
