Vibey British rock music recorded by Paul Burton down at Ground Zero and this EP sees Carbon 14 deliver up five songs to whet the appetite. It kicks off with "True Entertainer" with its candid view on contemporary society and the damage it does to the soul. The two strongest songs open the EP and almost immediately I am struck by the power of Jim Jones' voice and it's not until "Pyrornaniac" that I register just how well the rest of the band create a full-on sound. The song is about God setting us on fire and the feel is suitably fiery! "Life" is understated and a bit more poppy but still with plenty of atmosphere and simple lyrics that sum up life and all its ups and downs in a few well-chosen phrases. Very clever! "Vision's Clearer" is a pulsating rocker that is propelled by the band's rhythm section and some excellent guitar work. The closing "Invited" is a simple ballad, just piano and voice recorded in a home studio - it's a beautiful quiet ending to this very good EP. OK I am intrigued - time to investigate and find out more about this band.
