Few independent releases can have been awaited with such expectation a this, the long overdue debut from the lady whose arresting voice made Blueberry such an exceptional indie pop band. Over a warm swathe of jangling guitars, funky rhythms and a deft blend of the acoustic and electric conceived by producers Andrew Philip and Paul Burton, Cathy's voice purrs, whispers, swoops and soars on her superb songs. There are three you're bound to catch on Cross Rhythms radio in the coming months - a plea to God to free us from our self built prisons, "Take Me Out"; the observation that words of love are not enough, "To Say You Love"; and the consistency of God in the clamour of life, "The Fuss". But throughout you'll find songwriting intelligence and compassion, like her fine new rendition of Blueberry's "Hollow" or the tender song to a hurt friend, "Burn Out". A brilliant debut.
