Oklahoma-based Passion worship band member Charlie has released an album that is worship in its broadest sense - far from the congregational style we are used to yet infused with praise and a desire to worship God even in the hardest and darkest places. These guitar-based poppy rock songs are filled with depth and meaning and are honest about struggle whilst declaring Christ as Lord in every situation. Opening with full on guitar, solid bass and energetic drums, "Chainbreaker" sets the stage for an album filled with life and hope which begins and ends with a proclamation of our freedom in Christ, the lively guitar and solid melodic bass line of "My Brightness" speaks of Jesus our rock in a spinning world and the closing track is a more acoustic affair growing in strength as guitar is joined by piano, then drums, bass and full band becoming a song of praise and proclamation based around the words "Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again." Like that statement, this CD is filled with both pain and promise, sadness and celebration. These songs are not the kind many of us will find ourselves singing at church, but as a CD to inspire worship and prayer and reflection this really is outstanding.
