There's a good reason the Chicago Mass Choir has achieved international recognition, won numerous awards and topped the Billboard Gospel charts in their 23 year history. This latest album is the choir's 15th recording and was recorded live in Nashville. Little of the spirit, sparkle and energy of the original event is lost on CD (just make sure you crank the volume up!). Years of practise mean each track and each vocal is timed to absolute perfection, but the choir is certainly not constricted by its own professionalism and the album is peppered with the sort of vocal spontaneity you might expect at a live concert. The first three tracks are foot-stomping praise songs before the choir proves its ample ability to deliver powerful praise at a different pace with "Wash All My Sins Away" and "Glory And Honor". Allowing different members of the choir to take centre stage on different songs provides plenty of variety but the power of the album lies in those spine-tingling massed voices.
