Those who read Cross Rhythms' recent article will know Chris was recently voted Best New Artist in the 2011 Dove Awards. This, his first release for Word, utilises the rock solid production (and some songwriting and musicianship as well) of Ed Cash (Bebo Norman, Amy Grant) and it showcases why there is so much attention coming his way. In style terms think The Script mixed with Jeremy Camp with a little sprinkling of Coldplay and you get close. The opener "You And I" sets the pace with a solid drum base and feel good lyrics. The latter are what gives Chris the edge; his lyrics give the listener an insight into a world which we can all relate to. In "Battle", the fight between good and evil is explored, in "7x70" he explores what his house has heard during his life there, happiness, screaming matches, pain and loneliness, and God's help through it all, "I thought the pain was here to stay/But forgiveness made a way". It's hard to find favourites as this album is simply outstanding. It is a bit of a slow burner, but once it gets under your skin, it does not let go.
