I wasn't surprised to hear that Chris August had won Male Vocalist Of The Year at the Dove Awards in 2010 and since then he's continued to make quality CCM albums. His latest scores highly on several fronts - the melodies are catchy, the songwriting sharp, the instrumental backing just right and the voice in top form. It's all delivered with confidence and ease. The title track, a song about creation and relationship with God, kicks off the album and August sets out his stall effectively: "I love the Maker and the Maker loves me." "I'm in Love With You" is an attractive romantic song while "Drop Your Stone" is a hard hitting song of social comment with a strong warning against being judgmental ("If we're pointing the finger/Three are pointing back at us"). August is clearly conscious of his own failings, shown in the track "Gotta Be Change" ("I carry chains though I've been set free"). Apart from the variety of lyrical themes there's also a range of musical styles, from well styled pop, through powerful ballads to the funky and rocking "Muddy Waters". The multi-talented August co-wrote all tracks, co-produced most of them and is ably supported by some cracking Nashville musicians.
