So varied as to almost defy classification, Chris' latest instrumental epic had me baffled for a while. Generally I struggle with the concept of instrumental albums, as it's hard to maintain interest unless you're a musician or a genius, and even then they can so often sound terribly self-indulgent (titles such as "Toiling The Landscape Of Dotted Minims" and "Thing In D" don't help much either). What isn't open to question is Chris' undoubted ability, both on electric and acoustic guitar, put to good use over a number of soundscapes all of which share an epic sound. My only complaint would be that a real drum kit would really have lifted things. If you're into instrumental albums, you'll find this as good as any. If you can't stand them.you know what to do.
