The former Love Coma leader moves on to a solo career and this single is the first fruit of his new record deal. Two songs which are well crafted and a step away from the modem rock sound associated with his former band. Don't get me wrong, this is still edgy but there is plenty of acoustic instrumentation giving it a vibe. For your money you get two versions of two songs - long versions and shorter radio edits. Both tracks are produced by Brent Bourgeois and have quality written in huge letters all over them. "Good Thing" has musical peaks and troughs and then this big chorus "Sometimes truth comes back at you..." which closes the song and just gets under your skin. There's also some great Twin Peaks-style guitar from Sixpence's Matt Slocum. The second song, "Bright And Morning Star", is to all intents and purposes...gulp...a worship song, but hey! This is worship with attitude and plenty of atmosphere. The track is again in long and short versions and has already appeared on the seemingly omnipresent "Mindy's Revenge' album. This single is simple an appetite whetter for Chris's forthcoming album 'Down Goes The Day' and if it sounds as great as this. Chris deserves to be huge! I can't wait to hear it!
