The world's leading exponents of gospel reggae recently released a mini-album but we're just catching up with this full-length set released last April. The way in which reggae music has spread to be a global phenomenon means that Christafari's global mission to sing and evangelise has the perfect vehicle to connect with audiences. The fact that they are a class act and continue to create albums as well produced and performed as this explains why they are the most successful reggae band in Christendom. The distinctive vocal sound of the band's leader Mark Mohr is joined by other members of the band including Mohr's wife Avion Blackman to add a certain sweetness. Standouts for me include the opening title cut which immediately grabs attention with its groove. Reggae music has plenty of material that draws on biblical imagery or phrases which is one of the reasons why Christafari's songs work so well in this context. "Wounded For Our Transgressions" and "Surely Goodness" wear their biblical lyrics proudly. Right from their debut album the band have always had worship as part of their ministry and on this release include some worship songs. I am probably one of the only people on the planet who hadn't warmed to the modern worship classic "Good Good Father" but here, Christafari deliver a version which is totally brilliant. I love it! Another highlight is the lilting Hillsong worship gem "What A Beautiful Name" which allows Avion Blackman to deliver a lovely vocal. These pioneers continue to create something that is capable of slipping past the defences and touching the heart. What more could you want?
