This is another album in the ever growing line of singer/songwriter releases with an acoustic feel. New York-based Dallman treats us to a set of self-penned songs full of heart-break, growing up and late nights that he currently treats the audiences in New York's acoustic clubs with. And it's certainly worth a listen. There's a nod in the direction of Jack Johnson, and perhaps Tom MacRae, and enough variety of style to stop it getting boring, which is something that this type of music often suffers from. There are some funky tracks, some with a country feel, and a handful of ballads with some gentle use of strings to give some depth. Best tracks are the up tempo "Mistake", the piano led "Nighttime In The City", the waltzing "Brand New Lover" and soulful closing song "Dragonfly". Also worth a mention is "Hollow High" and its clever lyrics about the pitfalls of drug taking. If fact, lyrically it is also a good album although sometimes they are just a little too clever for their own good. Two of the slower tracks ("Green Camaro" and "Over My Head") are the dullest of the set, but they are more than made up for by the catchiness of the rest of it, much of which I've been subsequently humming to myself.
