Product Description
Almost four decades into their storied history, Petra have announced the reunion of their ‘classic’ 80s lineup, which consists of vocalist Greg X Volz, guitarist Bob Hartman, bassist Mark Kelly, drummer Louie Weaver and keyboardist John Lawry.
The four-time Grammy award-winning band are releasing a new album featuring re-recordings of hits from that era plus two new songs.
These ‘elder statesmen’ of Christian music hope that their comeback will be a call to their audience to return to that fervent faith of their youth and re-establish the firm foundation and message that marked contemporary Christian music in those early years.
It is a joy to be able to hear the classic Beat The System
Petra line up once more. Good to see Louie back especially.
This album sparkles from the word go. All the classics from
1981 to 85 are re-invented, all more aggressively than their
originals. This album really does make for good listening.
Greg Volz has lost none of his vocal prowess, and Mark
Kelly's bass work here is a little more pronounced than in
the Johnathan David Brown produced records of the eighties.
All my favourite tracks pound out with such energy. but the
best track here has to be Graverobber, whilst the original
had enough power, this re-imagining with stirring intro has
so much more impact on me. But thats not to say there arent
other highlights to be savoured. One is the fresh rendition
of Angel of Light and Godpleaser, with impressive guitar
work fro Bob as usual to the fore. More Power To Ya as well
is more impacting, for the higher involvement of Louie and
his drum kit. It makes the track all the more piercing.
I am so glad these guys decided to get back together and
record this album. Its a great piece of nostalgia, and it's
a great piece of classic re-invention! Thanks Petra!
