This single, released for the holiday season in 1999 after EMI Records had notoriously dropped Britain's biggest ever recording star, sadly proved to be Sir Cliff's last number one pop hit. Why sadly? While despite being that rarity of rarity - a UK pop hit with a full-on Christian message (and let's face it, having the Lord's Prayer as most of its lyric could hardly be more Christian), the whole idea of putting the timeless Scripture to the corny "Auld Lang Syne" melody was never going to be a creative triumph. In truth, this smash hit is nearer to the dire musical standards of "Congratulations" than the pop music perfection of "Miss You Nights". Still, a hit is a hit.
