Continuing Cross Rhythms' strange habit of reviewing Christmas albums months, or years, after they were originally released, we've finally got around to this 2015 five-song EP. 'Christmas Vol 1' emanates from a collective of musicians who under the umbrella of Club Culture Ministries are doing great work in bringing the Gospel to nightclub audiences in Kingston, Ontario and are also collecting and distributing food and clothing to Kingston's most disenfranchised residents. This project features five carol evergreens such as "Angels We Have Heard On High", "We Three Kings" and "O Come O Come Emmanuel" and although these fresh arrangements are more funky jazz fusion than the pop techno I was expecting with their Club Culture name, they do have a certain danceability. Each of the three vocalists used is pretty good while Jeremy Daw, who provides great bass lines and also produces, plays keys, percussion and mixes, is clearly a most gifted chap. Maybe you'll hear a track on Cross Rhythms radio around 2017 Christmastime.
