One of the best soul ballads I've heard for years, and with a lyric that expresses the longing a backslider feels when he moves away from the church this is a magnificently executed debut release from a blue-eyed soulman from Indiana. The singing is richly expressive, the echoing chorus sounds like a righteous choir and the song has some exceptional lyrics ("Take me back to a preacher and a verse/Where they've seen me at my worst/To the love I had at first/Oh, I want to go to church") which all make for a wonderful single.
