Colour Of The Soul are Martin Richards and David Crocker, an acoustic guitar and vocal duo with occasional percussion from the latter. 'People And Wood' is a collection of 12 songs and so presents the listener with a good helping of their material. The quality of the singing is high, many of the songs featuring two voices which complement each other well, using intelligent harmonies. Some of the songs show real promise, however are let down by uninventive musical arrangement and what I would term as over-complex lyrics. By this I mean that the lyrics do not seem to flow and are sometimes hard to understand. Notable exceptions are "Seed" and "A Promise" (lyrics by A White), whose lyrics are clear and challenging. The high spots of the tape for me are "Back To Front" and "Seed", both of which are good. The points I have mentioned about musical arrangement and lyrics have, however, reduced the rating for the tape as a whole.
