Comeback Kid's debut mainstream release kicks off at a ferocious speed; the average length of the opening five tracks is less than three minutes. The best of these is the title cut. The quickness of the pace hardly subdues but the tracks do start to get a little more adventurous as the album goes on. Nonetheless this is indeed hardcore, taken from a solid punk base, yet somehow the aggression seems to be somewhat missing. Whilst the two biggest styles surrounding hardcore (screamo and metalcore) continue to grow, these guys have stuck to a much more old-skool style, and won fans old and young alike. The vocalist seems to be more from the pop-punk mould than hardcore and teamed with the group chants, which worked so well on their last release, this really will have a wider appeal than to just hardcore fans. Of course the problem can be that if you try to appeal to different markets you can end up appeasing none of them, but this formula must work as it was this that got them signed to Victory in the first place. The band is happy to get a growing Christian fanbase though it has to be said that there is nothing on this CD that makes their faith seem obvious.
