Quick, someone tell Germany's Crushead that nu-metal has been and gone. It's a shame that this album sounds so dated, as their previous full length was a cracker. But 'Space Between' seems to just lack any bite. Maybe it's just overproduced; their last album had a rawer edge to it for sure. In places, the band reminded me quite a lot of 38th Parallel ('The One' particularly) - a band I adored five years ago but since then have faded away. With their soft-end crossover, hip-hop inspired nu-metal it does sound like it's now been done 101 times before. Chances are that if this album preceded their last release I may have chosen tow or three tracks for possible airplay on my show. Now I'm scared that I'll get clobbered by the fashion police. These guys really don't seem too worried about being unfashionable though, their rap-rock cover of "God Gave Rock 'N' Roll To You" is more than testament to that. They can write catchy songs, but after the opening track (which would be so much more enjoyable if I was able to stop cringing) they just don't seem to deliver.
