Here's something a little bit left of centre and a bit intriguing. Vineyard churches have a great musical heritage and here's a band connected with the stream who want to make music that carries a message of God's hope and justice into a tired society. A simple enough approach to production means that the songs are allowed to breathe with enough interesting instrumentation but still uncluttered enough for the rough edges to give it a vibe. Earthy, rootsy music with some indie elements and the occasional groove to keep the listener surprised, DJO write avoiding religious cliché but with enough obvious references to their faith that these songs communicate. The anthemic "Can't Get Enough" which is built round an understated drum pattern and has one of those singalong choruses that won't let you go is an uplifting close to the album. Another favourite is the organ infused vibe of the title track which gives lead singer David Ross the chance to let loose a bit. His vocals take a little bit of getting used to since they're passionate but sometimes off key in a bit of a Neil Young kind of fashion. Well, it worked for Neil so who can complain too much!
