An EP that came out last year, 'Light Of The City' features five tracks from the Philippines-born, Seattle-based deejay, producer and mixer. There are some well-known singers (Cass, Shope) featured on some tracks here but it's when the studio maestro puts singer Sierra White on the song "How Can We" that this collection really grabs the attention. The song's rhythmic groove is a perfect counterpoint to Sierra's brittle vocal while the too-short rap also works perfectly. Just as attention grabbing is what the hugely underrated DJ does with pop man Spencer Kane - a moody, mid-tempo/near ballad, "Turn The Lights On" gives a hugely dramatic soundscape of reverb-drenched dynamics. Maybe not "commercial" like a pop station or clubland would use the word, but this is still an inventive treat. xRhythms are currently playing the two standouts. You can hear why.
