Staunch Daniel O'Donnell fans are unlikely to be Cross Rhythms readers. So I can probably risk observing that his soporific brand of easy listening has even less appeal here than when he does predictable cover versions of country songs. There is not the merest hint of country on this set. Instead you get a big lush orchestra and occassional chorus behind Daniel effortlessly working his way through well known hymns ("Abide With Me", "Softly And Tenderly", "Channel Of Your Peace") with some quasi-inspiratational stuff thrown in as well ("Morning Has Broken", "Annie's Song", "Wind Beneath My Wings"). Clearly there are plenty of people, churchgoers and non-church goers alike, who find appeal and maybe even spiritual solace in recordings like this one. All I can say is that Daniel and his producers know their record market better than I.
