For over 20 years Darlene has been the defining voice of Hillsong and I'm told that recordings featuring her warm expressive tones have sold over five million units in the US alone. Now with her husband Mark senior pastor at Church Unlimited in Australia, Darlene has delivered this solo set which to me is far better than previous solo projects and right up there with her very best Hillsong work. Recorded at the Grove Studios in New South Wales and with a bevy of producers including Paul Mabury (Hillsong) and Pete Kipley (MercyMe) these tracks encapsulate all of Zschech's strengths. The opener "Under Grace", with its overdrive guitar and heavy drums, is a stirring reflection of forgiveness. "I'm forever grateful for my salvation/Washing over all my sin." Truths we have heard a thousand times before but seldom sung with such soulful passion. The next track, "Saving Me", was penned by Darlene, Israel Houghton and Michael Gungor and is as radio friendly and pop orientated a track as Darlene has ever recorded while "You Are Love", a gentle ballad accompanied by piano and cello, is genuinely beautiful. With inventive arrangements throughout and with Israel Houghton joining Darlene for a duet on "Face To Face" this is a creative return to form for the hugely experienced first lady of worship.
