Down the years, Bournemouth-based Dave Griffiths has been a seminal figure in Britain's Christian music scene. For years he fronted grassroots rockers Bosh while the collective Dave organises, Chaos Curb Collaboration, brings something fresh to the modern worship arena. Now with this, his first solo album, he offers a variety of songs, some suitable for the mainstream gigs he is beginning to play and others, like my favourite the confessional "Draw Another Line", demonstrating he's lost none of his skill in finding apposite images in articulating the divine dialoge. The arrangements range from the distinctly Bosh-sounding powerhouse rockers to the plaintive "Still Here" which features solely acoustic guitar and keys. But on the whole this isn't your atypical stripped down singer/songwriter album. "Bridport Dagger" is a turbulent heavy rocker while "Standing In The Presence" is a jaunty mid-tempo number with something of a folky feel. Dave's voice is richly expressive throughout and the production sound satisfyingly organic.
