David Abramsky hails from Toronto but now lives in California from where he leads his Yeshua Rafah (Jesus Healer) Music ministry. In the past he worked with the Jews For Jesus' Liberated Wailing Wall music evangelism team, and 2004's 'Clothed In Gladness' was his first solo Christian recording. Abramsky is a talented cellist and pianist who offers here an eclectic selection of Christian tunes ancient ("Be Thou My Vision", "Jesu, Joy Of Man's Desiring") and modern ("Faithful One", "As The Deer") alongside Jewish melodies ("Artza Alenu", "Avinu Malkeinu - Our Father, Our King") and, most successfully of all, five Abramsky compositions of high quality (personal favourites are the gentle "Love Always" and "The Pilgrim"). I would have preferred to hear more original Abramsky rather than retreads of over-familiar choruses and hymns, and if I'm honest the cello isn't as successful as, say, a violin would have been in delivering jaunty Jewish tunes like "My Yiddishe Momme". But this is still an impressive album.
