The fact that some fans labelled David a "Christian alternative to Ozzy" can't have helped Mr Benson so it's heartening that Retroactive have re-mastered and re-released Benson's three independent albums 'Holy Psychotherapy' (1994), 'Purpose Of The Cross' (1996) and this, the best of the three, from 1997. What takes this album to near classic status is the calibre of musicians that Benson brought in for these sessions. Charles "JR" Moore lays down monster bass lines such as on "Sin" where he trades licks with the rhythm guitar, and "The Struggle" where he makes with the funk. Equally powerful are the axe shredders featured here - Dale Geer and Chris Grey - with the title track featuring some effective jazz fusion and "Fool" one of the best guitar solos you're likely to come across. From the doomy opener to the uptempo closer "Warpath" with some sledge hammer-like riffs, this is powerful stuff.
