In the '70s and '80s David Meece was a front runner for Christian contemporary music and has, with the minimum of publicity, recently completed aUK tour. 'There I Go Again' is his latest release and is his 13th recording. Written in 1995, this album reflects seven years of hard work and was first released over a year ago in the USA. The album is completely self-penned. 'There I Go Again' was birthed out of the many challenges he was facing throughout 1995 and are an honest portrayal of his journey through the "wilderness". It is a high quality recording with David's voice ringing clear as a bell. But, and unfortunately there is a but, the music does feel eight years old, if not more. "Run" for example, seemingly depicts the flight and fear of a man running from the evil that surrounds him. It is a bit melodramatic, think Bonnie Tyler's '80s classic "Hero" but with a Christian slant. No doubt a lot of prayer and searching went into this album, but I imagine that if a non-Christian would listen to it, there might be a flicker of eye rolling. According to his biography, David Meece has set the tone of the CCM industry and continues to modernise it. However, I can't see that desire reflected in the stereotyped and rather dated music on offer here.
