Let's be perfectly frank about "private releases". The availability of home studio equipment means that thousands of soloists and bands are today "releasing an album" when a few years ago they'd have never got their music on to tape and into the public's hands. Most of these "releases" are only sold at the artist's gigs, at their churches and, maybe, if they are particularly blessed or particularly talented, at one or two Christian bookshops. Nearly all private releases, because they were made for hundreds rather than thousands of pounds, lack serious production values and Cross Rhythms reviewers' are thrown back on evaluating the quality of a song and the future potential of a ministry. David C Mitchell from Edinburgh is clearly very talented and very, very versatile. The opening track, a synth driven rocker, is really excellent. But David's "friends" add little to the album and one or two tracks are wince-inducing. A producer could have brought out David's transparent talent. But unfortunately the very mixed quality of the tracks here makes listening difficult.
