David was previously the lead singer of Northern Ireland's Beyond Jericho. This album has plenty of positives - catchy melodies, reasonably well crafted songs, and I always admire someone who brings out an album of originals. There's a lot here about life direction and redemption, right from the opening song "Better Man" - "I came back to God 2001/I was saved back in '92/But I lost my Lord among my teenage tricks". The track "Stronger" shows determination to change - "I will be stronger than I've been". I liked the tribute song "Silent Heroes", with its praise of the faithful ones - "the loving parent who prays for the life of a child". "White Horse Rider" sounds a warning with its Apocalypse theme, while the prayer song "Be There" is very gentle by comparison. However, I was rather underwhelmed by the album as a whole. I thought the singing needed more confidence, and some of the melodies just didn't do it for me. Some of the solo electric guitar licks seemed a bit random and the songwriting needs to be sharper. There was no standout track for me - I like my albums to have at least one song that I'd be keen to play over and over. But there surely is great potential here - I suspect we'll hear lots more of David.
