One of a Top Ten series of budget albums featuring artists such as Jaci Velasquez and Rachael Lampa, this is a bargain priced compilation of the singer currently singing with the Gaither Vocal Band. A powerful lyric tenor with an amazing vocal range, Phelps here vocally treads into Josh Groban/Russell Watson territory. Powerful, bright, big arrangements fill this album such as in Rita Baloche's "Arms Open Wide" and "Virtuoso", co-written by David with Regie Hamm (who also produces some of the material). David co-wrote four of the songs here including the mellow "Gentle Saviour". Five songs are from David's 'Life Is A Church' album and four from 'Revelation' so if you are a big Phelps fan you will have these in your collection. The album 'The Voice' contributes the 10th track, Puccini's "Nessum Dorma" which for me was too ornamented and treads too well-worn ground. Some may find David's sustained vibrato and florid arrangements a little too rich and we could have done with more restrained offerings like the opening of Dottie Rambo's "Behold The Lamb" with its Celtic feel and cello accompaniment.
