Debbie Simpson’s debut album was almost never completed due a battle with ME - the story of her healing and courage is on her website and is well worth a visit. The album itself contains nine self-penned songs that have helped Debbie “take one step of faith out of the boat” and the lyrical substance of these songs is God’s love and compassion for us. Faster songs like “Breathe On Me” and “Safe In His Arms” work better but on the whole this release is let down by weak production - the inclusion of a shaky keyboard strings effect on several tracks and some ill-advised backing vocals on “Searching For Love” do no favours either. Four of the tracks are over five minutes long and could easily have been expressed in less time if it weren‘t for the fact that the album would have then been very short. If Debbie were to focus on a few of her songs, have them produced to a higher standard and released as an EP, I am sure her talents and the invaluable message in her songs would be much better presented.
