It's taken nearly three years to complete, but much to Debbie's obvious relief, here's the finished article, and whilst there's little evidence of the long gestation period in the final product, I'm pleased to say that the results have been worth the wait. Debbie, from California's Orange County, has a relaxing alto voice which is pleasant on the ear and a nice way with songwriting. The arrangements, while largely programmed - not my favourite - are nevertheless well produced and a bit of an R&B feel runs through the album. Perky opener "Invitation" gets things underway in just the right way, while the bossa nova feel of the title track goes well with Debbie's easy delivery. The only icky moment is the decidedly schmaltzy "we love America's soldiers" track "God Bless The Red White And Blue". But we know our American cousins lap up that kind of thing. That minor aberration aside, let's still hope for all our sakes that the next project is a bit quicker off the blocks as clearly Ms Stewart has considerable talent.
