From the opening second of this 10-track album it's clear that Desiree Zilinmon is on a mission to glorify Jesus and tell her story. The first track, "Tears Of Rain", is a full on rock song driven by delightfully crunchy guitars. It's akin to some of Anastasia's more upbeat numbers. "Be Careful" follows the opening number with its Evanescence-esque riffing chorus and call and response vocal parts. This influence can be heard again later on "The Utterance", with its slightly gothic string arrangements. It's surprising to hear such a rock influenced sound from a young African American, but Zilinmon isn't one to conform or to stay in one sonic mode. There are moments of gospel style in "Breaking Barriers" and the album closer, the largely choral "Never Let Go". There are also more classically R&B tracks like "Praise" and "Delight Yourself". Interestingly Zilinmon is never long without the sound of an electric guitar, which makes this collection of songs really interesting as rock and R&B collide. Lyrically, this artist is extremely Scripture-based. There are many very personal issues laid bare in her songs, but it's clear her heart is to testify to what Jesus has done in her life through her music.
