Reviewed by Stephen Adams Disctronica is the alias of record producer Robert Parr along with an assorted crew of German and American DJs, singers, and musicians. This is his debut CD, of 12 tracks, two of which are remixes (no club mixes I'm afraid) and it's not a bad effort. The main style here is European-style dance. First the good, "King Of Kings" is the masterpiece, an awe-inspiring Euro-techno track reminiscent of DJ Sakin's "Protect Your Mind" from a year or so ago (it's the one that samples the Braveheart tune). "Jesus, My One Desire" is an equally beautiful track, calling out to the Lord to show us all what we can be. The hilarious side of Disctronica is felt in the gem of a track, "Rock Of Ages" which Cross Rhythms' in-house dance presenter, DJ Coopoid has been playing recently. "Rock Of Ages" is like imagining Christian comedy duo Rodd & Marco doing their own version of "The Rockefella Skank" by Fatboy Slim. For those vaguely unfamiliar with secular dance music, it's the one with the lyrics "Right about now, funk-soul brother, check it out now_" (Health warning: This track contains a substance known as 'catchy tune syndrome' and will soon have you humming its tune for ages.) However, the downside of the CD is that the cheesy side is felt right at the start. Three tracks like "Greater Is He", a Corrs acoustic-pop type song, that is laced with rap absolutely ridden with Christian cliches, "Scarlet Letter" which starts with a horrific timpani drum line and what sounds like synth guitars, and "Set Your Affection" is another example of Christian cliched rap. But all things considered, I still think ifs fairly worthy of your hard-earned cash and as Cross Rhythms radio listeners will tell you, the best cuts work well on radio.
