Got a confession to make. It's not easy for me to admit that in the '70s I was a huge Rush fan. It's just that listening to this band brings back many memories although to be accurate they're more like early '80s Rush. So you might guess that prog rock is the name of the game here although the band themselves prefer the term "spiritual progressive art rock" which is a bit of a mouthful! The band consist of guitarist/singer Bartholemew Boge, who also plays guitar, and Jonathan Dexter who contributes bass and keyboards. The majority of the album is taken up with a concept work, a sort of prog rock Pilgrim's Progress called "Sorrow And Promise" which is over 50 minutes long! This is incredibly ambitious but as the concept is unfolded, it builds into an incredible performance. It's worth mentioning that Boge's subtle acoustic and powerful electric guitar playing really make an impact although his voice is an acquired taste, sometimes he sounds more like a girl which is a little disturbing! There are chilling moments like the screams of lost souls on "Into The Abyss" and there are a lot of sound effects adding atmosphere to the album. It all concludes with the magnificent triumph of "Make Me More Like You" which builds from its vibey opening into a joyful conclusion. Ultimately Divine In Sight create the most exciting Christian prog rock since Saviour Machine.
