Once you've got over vocalist Marc Martel's uncanny resemblance to Kevin Max (sorry to have to say it, but it's true), this is a totally corking album, full of irresistible hooks, crunching guitars and everything that made the Canadian band's eponymous 2001 debut so exciting. ‘Substitutes’ adds 12 more slices of punchy pop-rock, ranging from the straightforward radio-friendly fare of "What's It Like" to the slightly funk-tinged "Breaking Me Down" and the funky-acoustic "How They Love Each Other". Basically I won't waste any more of your time, except to tell you that this is one of THE best albums of 2003 so far, and if I were you, I'd be down my nearest CCM emporium, like, NOW!
