IN THE MAINSTREAM

If you know your mainstream R&B you'll know that the band's previous album, 'Enter The Dru', was a multi-platinum mega hit. But that was four years ago and in the cut throat world of urban music that's a long, long time. The group is now a fivesome with long time collaborator Scola now an official member. He joins Nokio, Sisqo, Jazz and Woody and this has already become a major American chart-maker. The track chosen for the first single is “I Should Be” written by newcomers and fellow Baltimore residents Everyday. Dru Hill’s sound is dominated by modern soul balladry and if you like your soul with lashings of intricate harmony you might want to investigate, even though for me there are far too many mid tempo and slow songs and one longed for a couple of faster numbers. Christian interest rests with Woody Rock’s decision to rejoin the group after his intriguing but relatively unsuccessful venture into the world of gospel. One wonders whether Dru Hill’s rambling declarations of romantic love will be sufficient to keep Woody with the group for long.
