It took so long in the "Fanfare And Overture" instrumental intro (distinctly MOR orchestral) that I began to wonder whether I'd been given a backing-tape issue by mistake (though organise-a-mass-choir-gig-in-your-own-auditorium didn't sound too likely a concept). But then we get to the stuff we know and love (if you liked those albums Edwin Hawkins recorded with mass choirs and big orchestras a while back). It's a thrilling sound. 120 quality black voices can take the listener pretty close to heaven while the arrangements here, though a trifle fussy on the orchestral embellishments are solid with some outstanding lead singers in Dennis Sanders, Ann Darvy-Hinton and several others. There's even gospel superstar John P. Kee adding a few soulful adlibs on the opener "Hallelujah You're Worthy To Be Praised". A thrilling, soulful musical experience.
