So what's highlife jazz? I hear many of you ask. In a nutshell highlife is the dance music of Ghana and Eastern Nigeria. It derived from a blend of European foxtrots, Caribbean kaiso and a variety of African rhythm influences to make a very contagious dance sound. Although the style has many nuances and regional differences, Ebow's approach delivers a distinct skiffle come ragtime even Cuban feel throughout. A well produced and performed EP that should give any jazz enthusiast a new perspective on the wider world of jazz. Any chance of an LP, Ebow?
