Eisley have been around for nearly 10 years, have supported bands from Switchfoot to Coldplay and headlined their own tours across the US - not bad for a band with an average age of 20 and all from one family. 'Combinations' is their second album and shows a growing maturity in both their songwriting and performance. While they may have lost some of their otherworldly feel they are still delightfully quirky, mainly due to the girls' harmony vocal lines. From the guitar-driven opening, "Many Funerals", the pace never really gives up with even the closing ballad, "Marvellous Things", one of two bonus tracks, being pretty full on rock. While there are hints of White Stripes ("A Sight To Behold"), Sixpence None The Richer ("If You're Wondering") and many other acts, the girls' vocals really give them a sound of their own. While this eclectic style gives some wonderful highlights it does stop 'Combinations' from being an outstanding album and such genre hopping can start to grate. And do not expect to find deep theological insights or evangelistic messages here - that's not what Eisley are about.
