The Californian songsmith's latest release is all about a sentiment we don't see too much today - gratitude. And yes, that is also the title. His voice has been compared to that of Cat Stevens, and it does seem like Eli's morning has broken after a dark night of the soul. You can tell he knows what he's singing about - redemption and desperation go hand in hand, and gratitude is their child. Musically, there's a touch of Counting Crows in there, a welcome element in the otherwise pretty slick production. While Eli's morning has broken, his voice occasionally is about to - in a good way. There's a frailty to his gustily impassioned singing which adds yet another dimension to the honesty of this album. "Hallelujah" is arguably the best track on this rather even album which ought to meet any fan's expectations. If you enjoyed Eli's record releases like 'Now The News' and 'Second Hand Clothing' this finely crafted set of songs is up to their high standard.

I am a close personal friend of eLi's. I can tell you
personally that there is nobody I know that sings with more
conviction than he does. He writes from the soul, seasoned
with pain, joy...life. His music is as real as it gets.
Part of the reason he went independent was because the
labels thought he was "too real" - he left his label to be
true to the music that you and I have come to love.
