Most of the pieces on this album are by Charles Villiers Stanford who lived from 1852 to 1924, and was professor of music at Cambridge. His output was somewhat less than prolific and lacks any kind of creative sparkle. A very able choir under the direction of Paul Treple does nothing to raise the music from an academic level to a spiritual one - it's just so many notes and is going to have a very limited appeal.
