Enid Rose Weir is undoubtedly a towering spiritual presence at the New Testament Church Of God, Highgate. And presumably our friends at Kingship reckon they've discovered a niche market for Enid's musical offerings (they released an EP last year). But to those not acquainted with the dear sister, 'He's My Guiding Light' is almost unlistenable. Cod country with programmed backings uncomfortably fused to steel guitar while dear Enid's voice is small and colourless, with the self-composed songs sounding like they stem from an obscure turn of the century country hymnal. There's even a bagpipe passage at the end of one track. I think I'd better stop here.
