Eva's latest adventure is literally a journey into the darkish. The first in a two part epic, 'Ride...' acutely exposes and expounds the lady's past dealings with Satanism, where the listener is presented with a very stark picture of a soul, diametrically opposed to God, in the grip of Hell. Produced by Michael Ciravalo and Saviour Machine's Eric Clayton, 'Ride..' is a goth rock project full of dark, foreboading and brooding industrial/darkwave soundscapes that is not recommended to those unwilling to look past facevalue. Ambitious and experimental in terms of both musical and lyrical content, Eva's latest opus boasts some superb compositional ideas. The intensity of 'One By One' springs to mind, complete with sampled guitar parts, intriguing vocal arrangements and whisperings supplied by Eric Claton giving the piece an overall industrial feel; as does 'Blood Lust' with it's compelling dance beats underpinning what is largely a percussive composition. I cannot help but feel wary though at the decision to release 'Salvation Part II' at a later stage. Personally, to have waited to release the project as a double album would perhaps have been a wider decision, as I can see 'Ride..' sadly being misunderstood and all to quickly dismissed. Controversial, most certainly; but nonetheless an important and vital project that, when placed within the context of its forthcoming counterpart, looks set to reach subculture that has seemingly been over lookd...until now.
