For Today is a metalcore band from Sioux City, Iowa. Their Facedown press release states "From the heart of the Midwest rises a beast whose ferocity and aggression is rivalled only by its poise and focus. For the two years For Today have clawed and scraped their way into the spotlight. Seldom is there to be found a band whose passion and integrity are matched by their technicality and musical merit. Music is a catalyst and For Today uses their August Burns Red meets Between The Buried And Me sound to spread their message across the nation." The album is produced by Jamie King who has also worked with bands such as The Human Abstract and Between The Buried And Me. The style is hardcore/metalcore with growly vocals. What strikes you is that for this genre, the lyrics have a positive slant and they are very open about their faith. In "A Higher Standard" they go, "We've made it too easy/To excuse everything we do as acceptable/or that it's just like everyone else/The popularity of something does not excuse it/We cannot live a life of sliding/Let us walk straight forward/Eyes focused on our destination/Body armoured for the battle/Soul ready to fight." The band are technically proficient and produce some interesting riffs. However, the vocals seem to be forced and are not punchy enough.
