Ol' Fred really is a bit of a funkmaster as we all know, and the best cuts here like "Unconditional" from 1993's 'Deliverance' and "Go" from '91's 'Persuaded' album are turbulent, rhythmic gems. Unfortunately the miserly playing time (why not more cuts?) and the arbitrary selection of tracks ("I'm Not Afraid" may have been a black radio hit Stateside but it's a dreary ballad on which Fred sings slightly flat) and the inexcusable exclusion of the classic "I Am Persuaded" track make this a patchy representation of the ex-Commissioned man. Still, the budget price will attract those still to catch up on R&B gospel's recent history.
