The links between Southern gospel and country music are very strong, in fact when I had the pleasure of meeting Bill Gaither in person, in answer to my question, he described the two musical styles as "first cousins". In recent years country and bluegrass has been well featured and documented in various Gaither Homecoming projects, so whilst this is not a "country" recording as such, it certainly veers towards country with backing of acoustic guitar, mandolin and even fiddle. Producer Ben Isaacs deserves our thanks for such a strong accompaniment. Oddly the DVD opens with two tracks not on the CD, "One Voice" and "Where No One Stands Alone", before we get the catchy album opener "Rasslin' Jacob". The very harmonious Booth Brothers guest for two songs, including the very catchy "I Played In The Band And Sang In The Choir", co-written by Larry Gatlin. Mainstream country duo Joey+Rory give us a very moralistic "That's Important To Me", before the DVD concludes with "The Old Rugged Cross Made The Difference". I must confess to being a little confused as to why they have put out two DVDs of this concert, as each is rather short by the usual long running Gaither standards.
