Didn't both of these guys have albums in the last Cross Rhythms? Oh well, so quality and quantity can go together. Forget 'Ebony And Ivory' for music reaching across race, Stevie and Paul had to bland out to meet each other musically. Ben and Garth on the other hand already are tilling the same musical field for justice, conscience raising and keeping issues up long after the newspapers have dropped them. Ben's mix of African rhythms and reggae sits very well alongside Garth's own folk style with his own African leanings. There are songs of protest here of course. But good protest songs like these don't need to shout you into submission, they just gently persuade you with unfussy arrangements and straight forward lyrics until you burn for the victims they're singing for and (hopefully) do something about it.
